The
Simple Facts About Tooth Whitening
Wonderful
white teeth give you an appealing smile and help boost your confidence, so what
can be done if you are concerned with discoloured teeth? Until recently the options have been crowns and porcelain veneers, which involve removal of healthy tooth tissue. With advances in dentistry, bleaching is now available using a specially formulated gel, which works by releasing active oxygen into the tooth where it alters the state of discolouring pigments. Discoloration
may be due to medication, root fillings, or natural ageing as well as surface
staining from tea, coffee, red wine and nicotine. Your dentist will identify the
cause of discolouration prior to treatment. The
procedure involves having impressions taken to make a thin plastic tray to fit
over your teeth. The bleaching gel is then put into the tray, which is seated
onto the teeth and worn overnight. The number of times this is repeated depends
upon the degree of discolouration, but is 7 to 10 sessions on average. There is
occasional temperature sensitivity during the course of treatment, but this
disappears after a few days. So
if you are concerned about the colour of your teeth, ask your dentist for their
advice on your individual cosmetic requirement. Contact us on 0118 9843636 for
